ANIL THOMAS

About Anil - A Note.

Anil Thomas

A journey shaped by attention, practice, and the discipline of presence.

I find myself grateful for the path that has brought me here, and for the people who have walked alongside it. What began as a curiosity about the mind slowly became a way of staying with experience, of learning, practising, and returning, again and again, to what is present.

Much of this foundation was shaped by my mentor, Richard McHugh. His presence did not simply inform how I work, but how I pay attention,  to people, to process, and to what unfolds in the moment. Through him, and through learning from John Grinder, Judith DeLozier, and Robert Dilts, different ways of understanding human experience began to open.

Over time, Gestalt has not remained a separate practice. It has become something more lived,  shaping how I listen, how I observe, and how I stay with what is present, both personally and in the spaces I facilitate.

Working across places and with people from varied backgrounds has continued to deepen this understanding, while also returning me to a simple position,  that of a student.

Through books, conversations, and trainings, the intention has stayed consistent: to share what has been learnt in a way that is real, usable, and meaningful.

To those who have been part of this journey, thank you.

Fritz Perls

A Return To The Present, Where Awareness Begins.

Fritz Perls

Fritz Perls is often spoken of as the founder of Gestalt Therapy, but to reduce him to a title feels insufficient. What he brought into the world was not just a method, but a way of encountering life,  immediate, direct, and unfiltered.

There is something unsettling about his work. He does not invite you to understand yourself from a distance. He brings you closer,  to what you feel, to what you avoid, to what is here, now. And in that closeness, something begins to shift.

His words are not always comfortable. They interrupt. They challenge. They ask you to take responsibility, not as a burden, but as a return,  a return to yourself. Not the version shaped by expectation, but the one that exists beneath it.

What I have come to recognise is that Perls was not interested in fixing people. He was interested in awareness. In seeing clearly. In experiencing fully. In allowing what is unfinished to come forward, not to be analysed endlessly, but to be met.

His work continues to echo through Gestalt, not as doctrine, but as practice. As presence. As a reminder that change does not come from trying to become something else, but from becoming aware of what already is.

In many ways, learning from Fritz Perls is not about learning at all. It is about remembering how to feel, how to notice, and how to be in contact with life as it unfolds.

And that, perhaps, is where the work truly begins.

Richard Dick McHugh

In Gratitude to My Mentor

Fr. Richard “Dick” McHugh was more than a teacher to me; he was a quiet force that shaped the way I see, think, and live. To call him my mentor, guide, or inspiration feels insufficient, because what he offered went far beyond knowledge. In his presence, learning was not something taught, but something experienced. There was a certain stillness about him, a calm that grounded everyone around him, and an honesty that made you meet yourself more deeply.

I remember watching him not just for what he said, but for how he was. The way he listened, the way he held space, the way he lived his understanding, all of it became a lesson. Through him, I began to understand that answers are not given, they are realised. He showed me that clarity is not something we chase, but something we allow.

What stays with me most is his humility. Despite the depth of his knowledge, he carried himself with simplicity and grace. He taught me to accept myself fully, to trust my own process, and to remain a student of life.

Everything I carry into my work today has, in some way, been touched by him, and in many ways, continues to be guided by his presence.
In many ways, I am still learning from him today.

Aarti Asrani - A Note Of Appreciation

Aarti Asrani

Aarti Asrani is someone whose journey reflects both depth and resilience. What stands out to me is not just her expertise, but the lived experience that shapes the way she works with people. There is an honesty in her approach, one that comes from having walked through her own challenges and finding her way through them.

Over the years, she has brought together multiple disciplines, from NLP and Gestalt to coaching and psychotherapy, in a way that feels integrated and practical. Her work is not limited to ideas; it translates into real change in the lives of those she works with. There is a certain clarity in how she engages with people, helping them move through limitations with awareness and intention.

What I value most is her commitment to making transformation accessible. Whether through her writing, her sessions, or her programs, there is a consistent effort to meet people where they are and support them in moving forward.

In many ways, her work reflects a balance between structure and intuition, knowledge and experience.

It is a privilege to witness the impact Aarti Asrani continues to create through her work.
